A very nice mid 18th Century French flintlock blunderbuss of small proportions by DOVTRAV of NANTES & possibly manufactured for naval use. The blunderbuss with brass mounted walnut stock & an 8.75" flared bronze barrel with fine engraved decoration overall. The lock plate faintly engraved with the makers details beneath the pan along with a second name stamped on the inside of the lock plate. Nantes is located in Western France on the Loire River and was the major slave trading port in France during the 18th Century. .
