James Mackenzie A.B. HMS Agincourt.
James was born C-1776 in Newcastle and his first entry shows him entering HMS Vanguard on Sept 5th 1793 age 21 and rated Able Seaman. This would suggest he was already an experienced seaman most probably in the merchant service. He served aboard Vanguard until Aug 12th 1797 when he was discharged to HMS Agincourt serving aboard untol Feb 15th 1798. James Farrington (L.M. HMS Namur) was born in Rochester c-1781, he joined the navy as a volunteer 15th March 1803 aboard HMS Ranger and later HMS Ardent from March 1803 until he joined HMS Namur on the 20th April 1805. On 4th Nov that year took part in the capture off Cape Finistere of 4 French line battle ships that escaped at Trafalgar earning his NGS medal which was awarded 43 years later. HMS Monarch of 74 guns was commanded by Captain James Robert Mosse. The ship was exposed to the fire of a 100 guns and mortars from shore and floating batteries at Copenghagen and her losses were stupendous, 56 men killed including the captain and 164 wounded making a total of 220 men. ALexander Murray transferred to Philomel 15th Jan 1826 and was appointed Midshipman on 16th Jan 1826. He served on the Philomel at the battle of Naverino. The Philomel,Rose,Wasp and Musquito were stationed with the frigate Dartmouth to watch the movements of the Turkish fireships at the entrance to the harbour. When the action became general one of the fireships was sunk by a well directed broadside from the Philomel which lost 1 killed and 3 wounded in the battle and brought home the despatches..... more info |

The 2nd 3rd Guards were occupying the garden & ground around the farm of Hougoumont inc the lane to the west of the Great Bard. A New Zealand medal presented to 3422 private James Mclean. 65th Regt.
Born circa 1835 & enlisted into the 65th Regt 6th Dec 1854. Previous occupation was a weaver. He embarked for New Zealand to join the service companies 15th April 1856.
He was severley wounded with a musket ball through the right hand at Cameron Town on 7th Sept 1863. It was in this action that the detachment of the Regt recieved 2 VC's and 4 DCM's.

Nicholl recieved a scalp wound at the "Battle of Gate Pah" were most of the officers were killed or wounded in the initial attack: 7 Officers Killed or D.O.W. 2 Officers wounded, Sgt Major killed, 11 privates killed or D.O.W and 18 privates wounded.
