Joseph Jones Volunteer 1st Class HMS Monarch. HMS Monarch of 74 guns was commanded by Captain James Robert Mosse. The ship was exposed to the fire of a 100 guns and mortars from shore and floating batteries at Copenghagen and her losses were stupendous, 56 men killed including the captain and 164 wounded making a total of 220 men. The casualties were the highest suffered on the British side during the war against the French and her allies. The Monarch was badly damaged, her hull and sails wher riddled with shot and not a shroud was left standing, her masts were also riddled and the slightest wind would have sent them over the side. Monarch was also at Camperdown in 1797. Ref:14579/37 £5750
