| ALexander Murray transferred to Philomel 15th Jan 1826 and was appointed Midshipman on 16th Jan 1826. He served on the Philomel at the battle of Naverino. The Philomel,Rose,Wasp and Musquito were stationed with the frigate Dartmouth to watch the movements of the Turkish fireships at the entrance to the harbour. When the action became general one of the fireships was sunk by a well directed broadside from the Philomel which lost 1 killed and 3 wounded in the battle and brought home the despatches announcing the defeat of the Turco-Egyptian fleet. Murray was discharged to HMS Favorite on June 8th 1829 and appointed mate July 1st 1830, he served with the Favorite until Sept 2nd 1830 when he was discharged to HMS Rifleman until Nov 1830, he then transfered to HMS North Star Feb 1831 and was lent to HMS Kangaroo before returning to HMS North Star Oct 1831. He served as a mate throughout as per warrant from Capt Lord William Paget. Invalided March 10th 1832.
