| Robert Silvers, Boatswain's Mate "Cleopatra".
Robert Silvers career in the Royal Navy commenced Jan 10th 1806 when the Americam ship " Elizabeth" of Boston was brought to and boarded for inspection by HMS Tarter. During this inspection the Elizabeth was taken in tow to Bermuda. Robert Silvers appears to have been one of three men who had secreted themselves away and were found below and was pressed into service. He claimed at the time to be a native of Boston USA. This was to be the start of his long career in the Royal Navy. On Sept 22nd 1806 he transfered to HMS Cleopatra and in this ship ha served in operations that resulted in the capture of Martinique Feb 1809. On Aug 19th 1811 he was discharged to HMS Africaine aged 28 and at this time his place of birth was changed to Stirling and he commenced making allotment payments of 18/8d a month to his mother Janet in Stirling which coincided with his promotion to Boatswain's mate. He continued in service until Sept 23rd 1835 having risen to Boatswain in 1816, he served on numerous ships in this rank.
