| Waterloo Medal to Samuel Lees |
| A Waterloo medal presented to Samuel Lees 2nd Batt 3rd Reg. Guards. Private Samuel Lees, Born Oldham 1791,joined the 3rd Guards 9th Dec 1813.In June 1815 he was with the 2nd Batt 3rd Guards under Lt Col Charles Dashwood at Waterloo. The 2nd 3rd Guards were occupying the garden & ground around the farm of Hougoumont inc the lane to the west of the Great Bard. The Light companies managed to occupy their positions without opposition from the French, but they were only just in time. Napolean had also appreciated the importance of occupying Hougoumont and almost as soon as the Guards had moved into the buildings some French cavalry appeared hoping to sieze the farm but were too late and were sent packing with a few volleys. See Waterloo Companion P337-343.
